Tommy Walker introducing the song “Do it Lord”
We are singing this song in the morning in worship. This you tube link shows Tommy talking about the song and introducing it at a worship gathering. Great stuff.
Actively Embrace Jesus
That is the subtitle of the chapter on worship from the book Transformational Church which the Seaford Pastors are reading together at the moment. It may be the most effective short description of worship i’ve ever seen.
I’m attaching a quote from the book that is a strong statement about preparing to lead worship.

Important information about why the band must move back to the stage this Sunday
Good afternoon Seaford Worship Choir and the rest of the Seaford worship ministry,
In this email: Worship Evangelism, Sunday songs, and info on why the band must move back to the stage
I hope that it is encouraging to you that we have 43 people by my count who have either participated in the Worship Choir in the last three weeks or whom have told me they are planning to attend as soon as possible. I also want you to know that it will make a tremendous impact on those attending our worship services when they experience us passionately worshiping God together. I have long believed that we underestimate the evangelistic potential of authentic worship. When we honestly express our love for God, then I believe that unbelievers sense that and be drawn to the One who inspires such love and adoration. The power of us doing that together with as large a group as God will grant us, I believe will have a great impact on believers and unbelievers alike.
We had a good worship choir practice Wednesday evening. In our three rehearsals so far we have had 25, 27, & 25 in attendance. The band was not able to practice on Wednesday due to the number of people out for various reasons.
Here again are the songs for Sunday. Of course, I want you to come to rehearsal when you can. It’s my prayer that the hour you spend in rehearsal will always be a great spiritual encouragement to each of us. However, when you cannot attend rehearsal, I still need you on Sunday when you are available to do that. With that in mind the songs for this Sunday morning are listed below. He Knows my Name is the invitation.
The band is returning to the stage. We have a slew of weddings coming up in the next several months at Seaford. So in spite of the fact that there are some real musical advantages to the band being on the floor, we can’t do weddings without the portable stage or “the football” as many call it. After the morning service, we need as many hands as possible to move music stands, chairs, mics and such onto the stage and reset them there. Scott and I will be there to direct where the pieces go. We also need assistance in moving the portable stage and steps from the Red Room and installing them in the worship center. The whole job should not take more than 15-20 minutes. I hope that you can assist. I will be making an appeal to all who are in attendance so it should go quickly.
He Knows My Name

Worship Choir Info for this week’s rehearsal
Worship Ministry Folks,
Good evening,
I hope you are having a great day. I’m working hard and praying through new songs for the worship choir. Here are the songs for tomorrow night’s rehearsal with their dates that I’m hoping we will be able to use them in worship. I want us to be able to do a full anthem (special) as soon as we can so I’m working toward that. We need to spend a little less time on the worship songs and more time on the songs we will use for anthems.
Here are the songs for tomorrow evening’s practice

Why we have administrative assistants (There is no spiritual benefit to this paragraph)
On Monday afternoon I decided to come to the church office to do a couple of hours of school work to add to the two hours I did early this morning, four hours per day being my goal this week. I had a letter to drop off at the post office and so I went there first. While there, I remembered that I had volunteered to pick up the mail a couple of times during the course of the week since the office was closed. I did not have a business card on me, but eventually was able to convince the clerk that it was safe to give me the mail. There were a couple of packages, some fairly heavy catalogs and several loose envelopes. I started out the door with the stack of mail under my arm. Unfortunately, as I was opening my car door, all the loose mail fell out and into the snow. Making matters considerably worse, there was a strong gust of wind right at that moment and the mail was immediately scattered a surprisingly great distance from where I stood at the front of the parking lot. In fact, before I could start running there were a few pieces all the way out of the parking lot toward the woods behind the post office. I ran in that direction picking up a few pieces along the way (white envelopes are not so easy to see laying in the snow). Back towards the woods, the snow had drifted a bit and I was up to my knees. I’m not making this up. I then backtracked and picked up what I hope was the rest of the mail. My apologies to Pete for getting the bills wet and to the rest of the staff for messing up their mail.
Seaford Baptist Awards Scholarships!
Seaford Baptist Church awarded eight $1000.00 scholarships from the Wes Martin Scholarship Fund. This fund was established by Lei and Mel Collins, Wes’ sister, and his brothers. Recipients were chosen for outstanding achievements in both service to the church and academics. The recipients were, left to right: Katie Kimrey, Brianna Keene, Sydney Beasley, Lindsay Barnard, Jonathan Gilson, Karen Riley, and Jake Barnett. Not pictured is Rachel Murray.
All I Have is Christ
This link below opens to an imbedded you tube video of a song pointed out to me by Shelly Duffer on her blog. It was performed at the Together for the Gospel conference earlier this year. The style will not necessarily please our webmaster Bryan Dunn, but he will like the theology behind it. I expect that we will hear this soon at Seaford.
A stiff challenge for Bible literacy, with solutions
Ok, a real blogger would write an entry discussing the article to which I am referring here, but I can’t seem to find time to write. But this article is too important not to be read, by everyone. The article is titled Why Johnny Can’t Read the Bible in Christianity Today.

Men’s Meeting notes for April 20, 2010
Men’s Meeting
April 20, 2010
2 Timothy 1:3–7 (ESV)
3 I thank God whom I serve, as did my ancestors, with a clear conscience, as I remember you constantly in my prayers night and day. 4 As I remember your tears, I long to see you, that I may be filled with joy. 5 I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well. 6 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, 7 for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
Questions for Discussion
- How well is your faith being passed to the next generation?
- Do you feel a responsibility to mentor younger people? Why or why not?
- What do you feel are the primary qualifications for spiritual or life mentoring?
