ARMED FORCES DAY, SATURDAY, MAY 19

President Harry S. Truman led the effort to establish a single holiday for citizens to come together and thank our military members for their patriotic service in support of our country. On August 31, 1949, Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson announced the creation of an Armed Forces Day to replace separate Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force Days. The single‐day celebration stemmed from the unification of the Armed Forces under one department ‐‐ the Department of Defense.

In honor of our active duty military, they and their families may eat FREE on Wednesday night, May 16. Just come by the military desk set up that night and sign in. THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO!

Our church grounds are an important testimony to our congregation, and send a visible message to our community. Most importantly, the lawns and beds are all maintained by church volunteers. If you are willing to help with some of the lawn cutting and landscaping needs, then this may be your connection to church ministries. Teens (16 and up) can help also but must have adult supervision. Mowers and most tools are provided, all that’s needed is your commitment of a few hours each month. Contact Steve & Cathy Wells by email or phone at 874‐6370 if you are willing to serve or you may add your name to one of the sign‐up sheets will be in the foyers.

For the next couple months the Personnel Committee would like to share with you some of the duties and responsibilities of the church support staff. The purpose is two‐fold: One it allows you to determine who to speak with concerning a need you may have, and two, it affords you the opportunity to see all that the support staff do at Seaford.

This month our focus is on Joan Riordan

Joan and her daughter, Hallie, have been at Seaford Baptist for 11 years. Joan has been on staff for 7 ½ years as the Children’s Ministry Preschool Assistant. Hallie is 12 years old and is active in the youth ministry.

Some of Joan’s responsibilities include:
The Children’s Ministry Preschool Assistant: Oversees the ministries developed for the preschoolers of Seaford Baptist Church and its community. She is responsible for the overall care of the Children’s preschool ministry for Seaford Baptist from newborns through 5 year olds. She works with and is a liaison between preschool ministry leadership and the church body; assisting in the recruitment of leaders and volunteers for ministry positions. These positions include Children’s Sunday school, Wee Praise, Nursery, Cubbies, Sing‐n‐Learn, Vacation Bible Study and other children related ministries as identified by Seaford Baptist Church.

Administrative tasks:
Creates a safe, positive, nurturing and age appropriate learning environment for every child. Works with Seaford Baptist leadership to develop an annual budget and manage funds for the fiscal year. Is responsible for coordinating the scheduling of activities for the preschool ministries. Collateral and additional duties as assigned by pastors.

If you need help or have any questions concerning any of her areas of responsibility, please give her a call at the church office. If you have any questions concerning any of the support staff, please feel free to contact any of the Personnel Committee members.

I want to take this opportunity to thank you for all of the giving you have done to get our students to World Changers. Our road to mission work in Birmingham, AL has been easier to walk down because of your faithfulness in generosity.

We are very excited for our World Changers trip that is now less than two months away. Please continue to pray for the 35 students going on this trip and all of the adult leaders as well. Ask God to prepare our hearts to be servants for Him and His glory. Also pray that God will prepare the hearts of the people in Birmingham to receive the Gospel and our service.

Please take note of some important dates in our student ministry that are listed here:

May 14: Parent Vision Meeting at 7 p.m.

May 18‐19: Secret Church Lock‐In 10 p.m.‐6 a.m. (pick up)

May 27, June 3, and June 10: World Changers Training 5:30 p.m.‐7 p.m.

The winter session of KIDZ W.O.W. CLUB (Worship on Wednesdays) is about to end. Our final rehearsal will be held on May 2. ʺThe Amazing Grace Raceʺ will be performed on May 6.

On May 9, we will celebrate all the efforts put forth with a cast party. We are in need of refreshments the morning of the performance (muffins, fruit, juices) and the night of the cast party (ice cream and sundae toppings). Sign up sheets to indicate your willingness to donate food items will be available on Kidz W.O.W. Club sign‐in table on Wednesday night.

The Kidz W.O.W. Club summer session is in great need of servants who would be willing to give their time. Each Wednesday night two volunteers are needed to select and lead an activity. Games, crafts, music, food and movies are activity options kids enjoy. Volunteers must complete and submit to the church office: (1) Seaford Baptist Church Volunteer information pages, (2) Background Check Authorization form ($12.50 donation accepted).

Please note that Kidz W.O.W. Club is Wednesday nights from 6:30‐7:30 p.m.; however, for the safety of our children and as the club leader, volunteers need to be present by 6:20 p.m. to supervise kids as they arrive and stay until every child has been picked‐up by a parent or designated guardian (not a teenage sibling). Summer sessions dates include: May 16, 23, 30; June 6, 13, 20, 27; July 11, 18; August 1, 8, 15, 22, 29. Right now we are down to just a few adult leaders on Wednesday nights. Your service benefits our children! We would greatly appreciate your support of this ministry!
